David W Snoke
Dr. Snoke approaches "clean" semiconductor systems as testbeds for studying basic principles of low-dimensional physics, quantum phases transitions such as Bose-Einstein condensation, nonequilibrium dynamics, dephasing, and control of quantum coherence. Postdoctoral researcher
Shuang Liang
Shuang is a Postdoctoral researcher in our group. After earning her Ph.D from East China Normal University in 2024, she joined the group to continue her research. Her Current work focuses on strong coupling between light and matter in GaAs optical microcavities.
Graduate Students
Hassan Alnatah
Hassan joined our group in January 2020 after he graduated from Oregon State University. Hassan's research focuses on Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of polaritons in III-V semiconductor microcavities. Polaritons, quasiparticles formed from the coupling of photons and excitons, can undergo BEC, transitioning into a coherent quantum state. He investigates how interacting polaritons reach thermal equilibrium and how their interactions influence thermodynamic properties. This work addresses fundamental questions in quantum mechanics, including the emergence of spontaneous coherence in BECs and the loss of coherence in standard quantum systems
Qiaochu Wan
Qiaochu joined our group in July 2020 after he graduated from Shanghaitech University in spring 2020. He has one-year working experience in making 2D materials stacks as an exchange student in Feng Wang's group at UC Berkley. He is currently working in our group on studying charged excitonic complexes in 2D materials.
Daniel Vaz
Daniel joined our group Fall 2023 as a joint researcher between the Youngblood group in the ECE department and our group in the physics Department. He has 5 years of experience in 2D material fabrication, for various applications in spintronics and photonics. He is currently working on studying the transport properties of the Quaternion as well as their possible applications towards Photonics and Quantum Computing.
​Bobby
Bobby joined our group in January 2025, having completed his master's thesis at Leibniz Universität Hannover and a dual degree in data science and physics at IISER Mohali. Previously, his research concentrated on atom interferometry and spintronics. He is presently engaged in our group researching charged excitons, biexcitons, and trions in complexes within two-dimensional materials.
Undergraduate Students
Anshul Ramavath
Anshul is a junior undergraduate majoring in Physics and Quantum Computing. He joined the Snoke Lab in September 2023 and specializes in constructing heterostructures with high precision. He also has experience in silicon wafer fabrication, utilizing advanced lithography techniques.
Juntong Ye
Juntong is a junior undergraduate majoring in Physics and minoring in Chemistry. He joined the Snoke Lab in December 2023. He has seven months of working experience of optogenetics in the Neuroimaging Lab at Pitt. He mainly works on making stacks, and learning lithography techniques.

Brandon Vargo
Brandon is a junior studying both physics and astronomy and engineering science. He joined the Snoke Lab is March of 2024. He mainly works on two-dimensional materials through building semiconductor stacks and using AFM. He also is currently working on a machine learning project to increase the accuracy of predicting material height.
